What friend or beloved family member lives furthest from you?

Loosing the ability to relate interpersonally is more estranging than geographical distance so I guess the person who is furthest from me right now is my former spouse who lives 3 blocks away and with whom I cooperate daily (in the form of short info emails) to care for our children.  We lived together 20 years and now apart for 10 years and over those 10 years have had stretches of great family outings and fun and stretches of great estrangement and why one stretch morphs in and out of another stretch remains mostly a mystery to me.
It feels tho perception is like a great multifaceted, multivariable insect's eye.  And no one person gets all the facets.  So there are times when he has a cluster of facets on one small arc of the eye and I have a small cluster of facets on the contrecoup surface of the eye and we have not a clue what the other person is seeing and why they are behaving as they are, and nothing we try to communicate to the other even computes as recognizable words or concepts... and we fall completely out of step for awhile, completely dumbfounded by the responses and behaviour of the other.  
It does not really make any sense to me.  I always miss his friendship when we are out of step.  Although, because of many years of this phenomenon I will always be afraid to get too close, while always having faith that another cycle of understanding and friendship will manifest.  :)
